The History of Evolutionary Spirituality (Think About This #70)

Carl JungPierre Teilhard de ChardinCarl Gustav Jung and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. One probed the collective unconscious. The other contemplated the cosmic nature of the human mind. In the following audio clip taken from a lecture on the history of Evolutionary Spirituality, EnlightenNext executive editor Carter Phipps brings together the ideas of this unconventional psychologist and controversial priest. Divergent though they were, Jung and Teilhard both shed light on a previously unknown domain of the human psyche–one that is collective, or intersubjective, and that holds a key to our understanding of evolution.

I wonder, does this mean the subjective experience has an objective side? Viceversa? I dont know…..One thing is for sure, nothing, well I mean Nothing, is for sure.

  2. Matthew Segall says:

Great talk. An essay I wrote on the relationship between Teilhard’s phenomenology of cosmic evolution and Jung’s synchronistic collective unconscious: http://karmabuster.gaia.com/blog/2008/12/seeing_with_teilhard_evolution_and_the_within_of_things

WOW!!!! Creating new structures in this Evolving domain , amazing significance of our Being part of the this Domain , Process !

    Thanks , Jeff .

  4. Lori says:

“new structures of consciousness’…the ‘knowisphere’…love this! Yes, we all need to start realizing our collective thoughts change culture. Positive Psychology is helping to head in the right direction. Bring it on!

It definitley seems like we’re begining to delve into this collective or intersubjective sphere of the human psyche, that’s been my real experience to my absolute amazement!! Jung talked about these reoccurring images that are appear in the sub/unconsiousness experience of numerous people that he met and spoke with. I had the experience of seeing a large brain reoccurring in my consciousness, and to vocalize or write to other people about that sounds a bit loopy, however now that you have written about Jung’s recorded data on these collective images – I don’t feel so ‘out there’! Also I don’t know much about Teilhard de Chardin as yet, but what you have pointed to about the cosmic nature of the human mind absolutely makes sense in my experience also. Very amazing! There’s a very big picture going on in there/or out there/or both, than we realize until we start looking very deeply. WOW!!!!! Thankyou Megan and Carter!!

Listening to these 2 ideas of the inter-subjective consciousness make me question our whole idea of so called individual freedom and happiness?

-Any views out there that rock the boat and give us a new angle on the idea of freedom and happiness, please?

  7. Collective unconscious accesses Universal Mind or Nous. Noosphere is position in time of the mind picture.

Now psyche. Not mind, not logos. Psyche includes mind, Anaxagoras’s Nous. Psyche is the matrix. Aristotle “On the Soul – De anima” Book I, Ch. 5.

That done. Get to panspermia, the psychon in the monad.

Then homeomerias – the all in the All.

    Old concepts. Basic vocab.

Move up from Beauty to Order. Thank you.
